"COACHING PLAYERS OF THE FUTURE"
When Steve Chambers formed a Junior Section at Newcastle City Juniors F.C in the summer of 2005 he could never have envisaged how quickly it would grow. Newcastle City Juniors Football Club now has a playing membership of over 250 children. In addition, the Club now has a well-established "Nursery Development Centre" for children under 6.
However, the growth of Newcastle City Juniors Football Club has not been at the expense of quality, with the Club recording remarkable success in their short history. Over the past three seasons the football club have won a staggering 16 league titles and finishing runners up eight times, cup competitions have also been a great success competing in over 40 cup finals and successful in 26, however the football club feel the real success comes in the number of players to have represented professional football academy’s. Newcastle City Juniors are very proud in their knowledge to announce 48 players and counting have come through city ranks, the football club feel extremely proud in the role they have played by taking the boys to the next level to further their football education.
Professional football academy’s the players have represented include Newcastle United F.C, Sunderland AFC, Middlesbrough F.C, Hartlepool United F.C, Darlington F.C, Burnley F.C, Charlton Athletic F.C, Sheffield Wednesday F.C, Glasgow Rangers F.C, Celtic F.C, St Mirren F.C and Hamilton Academicals F.C.
Newcastle City Juniors are currently in discussions with a number of Premiership, Championship and Scottish Premier League Clubs over possible links for future players who come through their ranks.
Director of football Steve Chambers explains some of the reasons for this success – “As a Club we believe in the development of young players, we encourage a skilful, attacking brand of football based on sound technical skills and effective teamwork. Newcastle City Juniors coaching sessions encompass a range of technical and tactical skills training in addition to match situation practice.
To conduct our coaching sessions we now have a staff of 30 coaches – everyone whom is F.A qualified and CRB checked. The club has 6 coaches already qualified to UEFA B Level, a great coup for the club to help establish good football within young players during their early stages of development”.
Success on the field has also been matched off the field. The Club have been awarded the Football Association Charter Standard Status. Club Chairman Kyle Blackwell reports - "We have a dedicated Management Committee who are committed to the development of this Club. The F.A. Charter Standard is a result of a lot of hard work behind the scenes, and stands testimony to the quality of Newcastle City Juniors Football Club structure, policies and procedures. These include codes of conduct for all members of the Club, and our Child Protection Policy. For example, all of our Coaches (plus any other adults within the Club who deal with children) have undergone a thorough Criminal Records Bureau (CRB now called a DBS) check.
Although such progress to date is impressive, Newcastle City Juniors regard this as only a start. Currently the Club operates teams from U7 to U18, in addition to the Nursery Development Centre. Whilst off the field they are now working on progressing to become an F.A. Charter Development Club.
After many years in discussion with the City Council for a permanent base within the city, the club is now firmly settled at the former training ground of Newcastle United Football Club, Benwell. This site is steeped in tradition with memories of former magpie stars from the past having trained and played there. The Club feel this will be a major coup in realising its potential as one of the top Junior Football Club's in the North East of England.
